Incoming linebacker wants to make an impact

When Rowlett (Texas) High linebacker Jared Norton reports to Austin next month for the start of his college career, the former all-state linebacker will arrive with some lofty goals.

Never mind that he'll report to a school that is coming off of a national championship win for the ages. Forget about the fact that three of the Longhorns top four linebackers return to the field this season.

No, this is Jared Norton that we're talking about and when it comes to high expectations, nobody sets them higher than the young man that's been one of the Dallas area's top defenders for the past three seasons.

Bottom line - Norton wants to play and he wants to play this season.

"I've talked to the coaches and they've all told me that I just need to come into camp in the best shape I can be in," Norton said. "They've already had the redshirt talk with some of the guys, but they haven't talked to me about that at all. I'm just preparing myself to come in and compete for playing time this year."
