Plenty of action in Spring Game
Sophomore quarterback Chris Crane completed 9-of-13 attempts for 124 yards and two first-quarter touchdowns and running back L.V. Whitworth broke loose for a 69-yard touchdown run in the third quarter to lead the White team to a 27-17 victory over the Maroon squad at BC football's annual Jay McGillis Memorial Spring Football Game on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Stadium.
Maroon quarterback Matt Ryan threw for 289 yards — 37-of-53 — and one touchdown and also ran for one touchdown.
Ryan connected with redshirt freshman Clarence Megwa on a 20-yard touchdown pass to give the Maroon team an early 7-0 lead.
Crane and the White team countered with touchdown passes on consecutive possessions to take the 14-7 lead. Crane completed a two-yard TD pass to redshirt freshman Rich Gunnell, which tied the scored at 7-7 with 3:31 left in the first quarter, then hit running back Andre Callender for a 29-yard TD pass with 42 seconds remaining. Callender — 21 rushes for a game-high 88 yards — set up the score with a 30-yard run from Maroon 30-yard line.
