Hubbard tortured by spring finish
MADISON, Wis. - Paul Hubbard finished the spring as the Wisconsin Badgers' top wide receiver, and that's why the 6-foot-4, 220-pound athlete played on the Cardinal team in Saturday's spring game.
Hubbard has been impressive throughout spring practice. Hubbard often times has the best hands of any of the young receivers, and his track and field speed has allowed him to stretch the field for big yardage.
But while Hubbard's expectations for himself coupled with fan curiosity of his improvement were in the back of his mind on Saturday, the junior finished the 19-14 Cardinal victory over the white in disappointment.
Hubbard had two receptions for 35 yards.
"I was really hoping to come out here and show people what I can do," Hubbard said. "What I did out here (Saturday) was nowhere near what I've been doing all spring. I've been doing some really great things out there in the spring season and for me to come out here in this and cap it off, I'm really disappointed with it.
"I feel like I cheated myself and I really cheated the fans that were waiting to see what they've been waiting for as far as the teams goes, and the guys that are stepping up as far as receivers go. And I feel like I really cheated myself and the fans in that aspect."
