Clemson recruiting big Jacksonville linebacker

Monday night, in an interview with Tigerillustrated.com, Jacksonville, Fla., Forrest linebacker Brandon Hicks said Clemson was a member of his early shortlist.

The 6-foot-3, 205-pound outside backer picked up offers from Florida and Florida State earlier this month, matching two previous offers that still stand, full rides from Auburn and Miami. Apparently Clemson, Georgia Tech and West Virginia are also now close to offering, Hicks said Monday.

"Florida State, Florida and Clemson came by my school last week," he said. "Coach (Greg) Mattison is recruiting me for Florida, coach (Mark) McHale is my recruiting coordinator for Florida State, and coach (Dabo) Swinney is my recruiting coach for Clemson."

Hicks, who also doubles as a tight end, had 88 tackles and 12 sacks on defense last fall. The Forrest product says most schools are looking at him as a linebacker and safety.
