Lowell, Muskegon stars work out and hang out

Michigan State commitment Keith Nichol earned a coveted invitation to the Elite 11 Camp earlier this spring and was recently named one of the Top 100 players in the nation by Rivals.com.

But Nichol isn't concerned with individual honors as much as he is with leading Lowell High School to another state championship. That is why Nichol has set an example for his teammates with his dedication in the weight room and by organizing informal workouts with his receivers every Saturday.

As many as two dozen Lowell skill players join Nichol on Saturdays during the off-season. Last Saturday, Nichol was also joined by a quartet of Muskegon High School standouts including fellow Rivals100 standout Ronald Johnson.

"Ron and I have talked about him coming up to work out with us for a long time," said Nichol. "He was going to come up last weekend, but he forgot that he had a wedding to go to. But he said that he wanted to come up last weekend, so I drove out to Muskegon and picked him and some of his teammates up. Ron's brother Corey was there too.

"We had a real good time. I think we will probably do it again. I think I might go out to Muskegon and work out with their guys."

Corey Johnson will be a junior in the fall.

John Harris and Doriel Miller also joined the two Johnson siblings in the informal work out organized by Nichol. Harris and Miller will be seniors this fall.
