Stegall calls Coker: I went with my favorite sport

Greenwood, Ark., quarterback Daniel Stegall says Hurricanes coaches had no idea pro baseball was even in the realm of possibilities when he inked with UM in February.

"I didn't think that was a possibility at that time," Stegall said.

But baseball was always his first love, and after a senior season in which he hit .500 with six home runs while compiling an 8-2 record and 2.09 earned-run average, the New York Mets drafted him in the seventh round of the recent Major League Baseball draft.

Stegall decided soon after that he would be pursuing a baseball career.
