Pantherlair releases new PA Top 50

This spring the Pantherlair released an early version of the Pennsylvania Top 50. Most of the colleges have been holding summer camps and passing camps so they can watch prospects workout under their watchful eye. Several players around the state have picked up scholarship offers recently and others probably will within the next few weeks. A few colleges are still conducting camps.

A number of linemen took big jumps after making the summer camp tour including Perry's Cameron Holland, Upper Perkiomen's [/db]John Fieger[/db], Woodland Hills Mike Dykes, and William Penn's Greg Gaskins. Caleb Ruch hit about nine summer camps but did not go to the Nike Camp this spring. We told Ruch he might have saved himself a lot of hard work by hitting the Nike combine. We asked if he had lost weight working out in front of college coaches but he said he father kept he well fed at restaurants and he actually gained a couple of pounds on his tour of eastern schools.

Hempfield's Greg Meisner suffered a broken leg early last year but has recovered and now has five scholarship offers including offers from Kentucky, Vanderbilt and Cincinnati.

Nineteen players in the PA Top 50 have already made verbal commitments to various colleges, however, most on this list have offers from Division 1 program and are still weighing their options.

Seven members of the top dozen had committed so far with Penn State getting four, Pitt getting two and Notre Dame picking one off.

Last year approximately 80 players from the state of Pennsylvania signed Letters of Intent with Division 1 schools. We would not be surprised that 70-80 high school players once again sign with Division 1 programs. That means that many fine high school prospects unfortunately had to be left off this list. Perhaps they will make it they next time the list is updated.

We have watched schools like Colorado, Arizona State, Mississippi recruit in Pennsylvania this year. It has been sometime since these schools have recruited the Keystone State this hard. Virginia, Michigan State, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Syracuse and West Virginia have also recruited here and already have verbal commitments from The Pantherlair's PA Top 50.

The Pantherlair will keep watching players and talking to high school and college coaches. We hope to update this list again late this summer.
