The Freak Planning Trips

The "Freak" is how many people describe Avondale, Ariz., Agua Fria's 6-foot-4, 266-pound defensive end Everson Griffen. Rated by Rivals.com as the No. 5 player in the nation at all positions, Griffen has his pick of college destinations. Is Oregon among his top choices? Duck Sports Authority talked with Griffen recently to find out where he stands with his recruiting.

A player of Griffen's size with his type of speed (4.46 seconds in the 40-yard dash) doesn't come along very often, and college coaches have taken notice.

"I probably have like 30 or 35 - something like that," he said in reference to the number of scholarship offers he's received.

Recruiters have kept in close contact with Griffen.

"Recently I've been 'texting' with coaches," he said. "Oklahoma coach (Kevin) Wilson, USC coach (Lane) Kiffin, coach (Tim) Kish from Arizona, and coach (Grady) Stertz from Arizona State."
