Chapman closing in on decision
It's almost decision time for Hoover (Ala.) defensive tackle Josh Chapman and it's an in-state battle between two fierce rivals.
"It's Auburn or Alabama," Chapman said. "It's down to those two schools"
The 6-foot-1, 280-pounder says he and his mother will make one final unofficial visit, to Tuscaloosa next Friday, and then sit down and make a final decision as to where he is going.
"Right now, I want to take a visit with my mom to Alabama," Chapman said. "I want to see where she feels comfortable. We are going down next Friday just for the day."
Chapman and his mother have previously been to Auburn and enjoyed their visit.
"She thinks Auburn is a great place because we had a really nice time down there and because coach Tommy Tuberville is a good man," he said.
Chapman's situation is interesting in that his scholarship offer from Alabama is to "grayshirt" or to delay enrollment until the winter of 2008. Auburn would bring him in in the fall of 2007.
According to Chapman, however, it's not set in stone that the Crimson Tide would automatically grayshirt him.
"They said if I have an outstanding season that it's not always true the grayshirt will stay on," he said. "Auburn is telling me I could step in and play because they only have three defensive tackles coming back."
Terry Price is recruiting Chapman for the Tigers. Charlie Harbison is recruiting Chapman for Alabama.
Chapman is a three-star rated prospect and is the state of Alabama's No. 14 overall prospect, according to Rivals.com.
