Fall camp preview: Quarterbacks

MADISON - Today, BadgerBlitz.com begins looking at the Wisconsin Badgers football team position-by-position heading into fall camp. The Badgers are scheduled to start camp on Aug. 6.

Starting this fall preview series are the quarterbacks, a group led by incumbent starter John Stocco.

Stocco enters his third season as the Badgers' starter and his final on campus. During his time at UW, Stocco has compiled a 19-6 record, making him a more than capable option for the Badgers under center in 2006.

Last season was Stocco's most impressive in a Cardinal and White uniform as he set school records with 2,920 passing yards, 21 touchdown passes, 197 pass completions, 414 plays and 2,888 total offensive yards.

Aside from his record-setting year, Stocco helped lead the Badgers in an upset victory over No. 7 Auburn in the Capital One Bowl, which allowed then-head coach Barry Alvarez to retire on a winning note. Stocco threw for 301 yards and two touchdowns in the win.

But Stocco's most memorable moment of the 2005 campaign came on a four-yard run just four games into the season against the mighty Michigan Wolverines. Instead of using his arm in Paul Chryst's more pass-friendly offense, Stocco used his legs for the win, 23-20.
