Vols impress Creer on unofficial
Tennessee didn't likely begin assembling its 2007 recruiting class with the thought that landing a running back was a necessity. However, the Vols definitely took the view from the outset that if the opportunity to land a tailback the staff viewed as a difference-maker, they'd pursue him aggressively. Which is how Texas standout Lennon Creer ended up in Knoxville last week for the last of several unofficial visits he's made this summer.
Creer (6-foot-1, 202 pounds, 4.47 40-yard dash) is a familiar name to fans who follow big-time college recruiting. For much of the spring, many observers felt like it was only a matter of time before he accepted his scholarship offer from the home-state Texas Longhorns and committed to Mack Brown and Co. In the end though, when Creer felt like he was being pressed for a commitment before he was ready, he and the 'Horns parted ways, which has led to a mad scramble among some power programs to land him.
Tennessee is one of the contenders that has found itself squarely in the mix, and the fact that Creer made what amounted to a two-day drive to make it to Knoxville for an unofficial visit last week signals he's serious about the Vols.
