Young d-linemen get good look on Thursday

Tommy Tuberville spent a big part of Thursday's practice session watching Auburn's young defensive linemen.


He had a lot to look at.


The Tigers brought in seven true freshmen on the defensive line, swelling an already impressive youth movement. All told, AU has 11 defensive linemen who are sophomores or younger.


That group includes players like Alonzo Horton, Sen'Derrick Marks and Antonio Coleman, all of whom are widely considered stars in the making. But it was the freshmen who got the most scrutiny from Tuberville at Thursday's practice.


And he likes what he's seen so far.


"It looks like we're going to have some good ones in a couple of years," the coach said.


If Mike Blanc has anything to say about it, that timeline will be moved up considerably. Blanc, a freshman defensive tackle, is pushing for a spot in the playing rotation. Auburn will likely need at least one interior lineman to step up and play as a true freshman, and Blanc believes he's got what it takes.
