Powell preparing to play both ways
It's no big surprise that Tydreke Powell is one of the state's top prospects on the defensive side of the ball.
However, according to Greg Watford, Powell's head coach at Ahoskie, N.C., Hertford County, it sounds as though he will make his mark as well this fall on offense.
"He has looked very good at fullback; he's worked his way up to No. 2 at fullback," said Watford. "He is an agile, athletic, big guy."
"He'll get some carries this year," Watford added. "We were laughing about it the other day. I told him, 'You could be a 500-600 yard guy this year.' It's kind of funny, ironic."
"Last year we played him at offensive guard, and he looked like a duck out of water. We moved him to fullback and he's blossomed."
"His vision and agility for a guy his size are truly rare," said Watford.
"He has the agility of a 200-pounder. I think people are really going to be impressed seeing him running the ball this year."
