Rapid weight loss puts Doughty back on field

After two days of sweating more off the field than on it, Stanley Doughty was back Monday night to the place where he's the happiest - the football field.

Listed at 331 pounds on the official roster handed out at South Carolina's Media Day last Friday, Doughty was required to get his weight under 315 pounds before he was allowed to participate in practice drills with the rest of his teammates along the defensive line.

Monday, he finally succeeded.

After a 2-1/2 hour workout, Doughty placed the blame squarely on himself for failing to meet his pre-season weight requirements and didn't fault Steve Spurrier for sidelining him until he had.

"I'm not pointing fingers," Doughty said. "Coach Spurrier (has) won seven SEC Championships and one national championship. I feel like he knows what he's talking about. He's coached at the NFL level. He feels like I have the potential to make it and be successful. If that's what I've got to do, I'll do it."
