Praise comes with purpose

Players enjoy compliments from Charlie Weis. They also endure them.

When the Notre Dame head coach pushed praise toward Munir Prince after fall camp's first day, Weis wanted to know how the freshman would take to life as an Internet sensation and brand name among teammates. Prince did impress in his debut, but complimenting the running back was about more than making the freshman feel part of the team.

"What you want them to do is to be able to let your ribbing go in one ear and out the other," Weis said. "Once you know you can't get to them anymore, that's when you know you got something. When you know you can get to them, you know you can break them down and you know you have to work on his mental toughness."
