Reier's Review: Saturday Quick Hits

*Saturday's practice marked the Alabama Crimson Tide's first full-pad workout of the preseason.

*Walk-on center Morgan Garner has been added to the 105-man roster, a move that signals the departure of another player. Offensive tackle Trent Davidson and offensive guard Marlon Davis have been absent in recent days, so an official announcement in regards to one or both of their status with the team should be coming very soon. Stay tuned for Matt's practice report for more on the situation.


*The Tide got things going with a red zone inside drill. Halfback Kenneth Darby followed Le'Ron McClain's lead block to the corner on the opening snap. Defensively, I thought the ends showed once again that they'll be extremely good against the run. Personnel-wise, freshman safety Justin Woodall opened up with the 1s, although Jeffrey Dukes and Marcus Carter were also on the field in a corner-less version of the 30 package. Woodall was filling in for Rashad Johnson, who was sidelined early in the workout.

*Sam Burnthall and Carter worked with the 2s at safety, as did Cory Reamer and Andy Davis. Secondary coach Chris Ball continues to rotate heavily at both spots. Carter was with the 1s for the final 11-on-11 period of the day.
