Saturday storylines

Kansas State will hold its final open practice of the preseason on Saturday, and plenty of intriguing storylines remain as the Wildcats prepare to open the 2006 season Sept. 2 against Illinois State. Perhaps no player will draw more attention this weekend than James Johnson, the four-star rated junior college running back who finally joined the Wildcat program earlier this week.

In no particular order, here are five stories to keep an eye on this weekend.

1. The arrival of James Johnson
K-State was expected to have a bit of a logjam at running back this fall, but an injury to Parrish Fisher, the one-game suspension of Thomas Clayton and Johnson's late arrival left the Wildcats relatively thin at the position at the start of fall camp. The 5-foot-11, 200-pound Johnson is now part of the program, however, and it will be interesting to see just how quick of an impact he can have after missing lengthy practice time. All eyes will be squarely focused on this speedy junior college transfer whenever he's on the field Saturday.
