Scrimmage analysis: In-progress notes

*The top offense is facing the number two defense. Gary Pinkel said there will be very little of the ones versus ones.

*First play was William Franklin saving Chase Daniel from throwing a pick six. The ball was tipped up in the air, but Franklin caught the deflection.

*After one first down, the second-team offense came on. Brandon Coleman also was nearly picked on his first pass, but threaded it through to Chase Coffman.

*Coleman's unit failed to pick up a first down when he was flushed from the pocket and had to throw the ball away on third down.

*The punting will be interesting to watch. Crossett is trying to win the job back from Matt Hoenes. Hoenes just helped him out with a 15-yard punt. Crossett's first effort went 57 yards.

*True freshman Del Howard is taking reps with the second-team defense right now. Interesting to see that. That would put Howard in position for some playing time with Trenile Washington out.
