Prepped and ready
STILLWATER - Oklahoma State went through a one-hour workout in shorts and helmets on Thursday afternoon as they begin to wrap up preparations for Saturday's season opener with Missouri State.
Head coach Mike Gundy said he is getting a good vibe from his team on their mental outlook for the game. That comes from a good deal more experience than he had to work with last year - his first as a head coach.
"I think their attitude is really good," Gundy said. "I see the mature players, their frame of mind is really good. I think Bobby Reid is relaxed. Michael Hamilton and some of the guys who last year were a little uneasy and anxious, I think they've relaxed. I think they'll be fine."
Cowboy fans everywhere can hardly wait to see how the 2006 Cowboys will perform on Saturday night in Boone Pickens Stadium. Though the stakes are higher for Gundy than the average fan, he is not immune to the same thought. He's excited to see how OSU's preseason preparations will translate to the game field. Alot of that excitement stems from a few playmakers that Gundy didn't have at his disposal in his rookie year.
"It'll be interesting to see how (Adarius) Bowman plays," Gundy said. "We've watched him in the spring and August. I'm excited to watch Chris Collins play defense."
The Cowboys got a morale boost when wide receiver Anthony Parks returned to practice on Monday after a medical condition had appeared to end his playing career abruptly. Gundy said he thought Parks had one more hurdle to clear on Friday to be cleared for game action. Assuming that happens, he said he will play his junior wideout on Saturday night.
"If they clear him medically, we're going to try to get him in a few plays, just to see how he reacts," Gundy said.
The Cowboys released their injury report for Saturday's game on Friday afternoon. That is how OSU will handle injuries for the entirety of the 2006 season and is styled after NFL injury reports. For the MSU game:
Running back Dearon Martin, questionable
Safety Clint Coe, doubtful
Running back Dantrell Savage, doubtful
Wide receiver Jeremy Broadway, will not play
Defensive end Ugo Chinasa, will not play
Linebacker Delvin James, will not play
