Dawgs redshirt most of freshman class
Not every player of scholarship gets a chance to play as a true freshman and most of the 2006 freshman class will redshirt this season. Seven of the 22 starters for Georgia began their college careers on the bench as redshirt freshmen.
Looking at the offensive players redshirting this season, Knowshon Moreno is the closest to actually playing the season. Running backs coach Tony Ball thinks Moreno is ready to play and he will be in the rotation next season at running back.
"Right now, we are getting Knowshon ready because you never know and we want to be prepared in case anything happens to the three players getting most of the reps," said Ball. "Next year Knowshon will be fighting for playing time just like everybody else is and it is going to be exciting."
The two freshman fullbacks Fred Munzenmaier and Shaun Chapas have a long road to climb before they will be able to see any playing time. Redshirt sophomore Brannan Southerland is the number one fullback, junior Des Williams is behind him, and they will both be back next season along with the third string fullback Jason Johnson.
