Insider Report: 'Crisis' at linebacker

In addition to putting another loss on Florida State's record, the game at NC State resulted in another player casualty. After Monday's practice, director of sports medicine Randy Oravetz confirmed that that sophomore linebacker Derek Nicholson suffered a torn ACL and is lost for the season. Nicholson becomes the eighth significant contributor on defense, and the fourth linebacker, to suffer a multi-game injury.




Even with four linebackers -- Derek Nicholson, Marcus Ball, Jae Thaxton and Anthony Kelly -- out with injuries, the starting three in FSU's base defense -- Geno Hayes, Buster Davis and Lawrence Timmons -- have remained healthy. Nevertheless, the unit has taken a major hit over the past month.
