Rookie Report: Gabe Carimi

MADISON, Wis. - Last week, BadgerBlitz.com caught up with University of Wisconsin freshman offensive lineman Gabe Carimi. Despite being redshirted, the 6-foot-8, 280-pounder has been working hard in practice as part of the scout team in preparing the 17th-ranked Badgers' defense for its opponent's offense each week. In the following interview, Carimi talks about his transition from high school to college, switching sides of the line, O-line coach Bob Palcic and more in this edition of ROOKIE REPORT.

How is your college football experience going thus far?

CARIMI: "I'm getting reps on scouts, so I'm going against our No. 1 defense. And our defense is a great defense so I think I'm improving this year and doing my things on scout and helping the team as I can and everything is going well."

Where does Coach Palcic have you playing on the offensive line?

CARIMI: "They have me at left tackle, which is opposite of high school."

What have you had to learn in order to play on the left side?

CARIMI: "Just pass blocking. It's a different kick step, different post step and just different hand placement, so it took me three weeks to get used to it. And then after that I feel better on my left stance than I do on my right now."
