Reier's Top 10 Tiders


The following is a list of Top 10 Tiders for Week 8 of the 2006 football season. Every Wednesday, BOL senior writer Travis Reier lists his top 10 Tide performers. In effect, the list serves as a week-to-week ranking of Alabama's most valuable players.

1. DJ Hall Last Week: 1
May have recorded the catch of the 2006 college football season in the loss at Tennessee. Seven more catches for 102 yards in Knoxville, extending his record streak of consecutive 100-yard receiving games to five. Now holds school mark for 100-yard games in a season (five). During his five-game streak, Hall has caught 31 passes for 606 yards and four touchdowns. Hall also owns the UA career record with eight, 100-yard games.

2. Antoine Caldwell Last Week: 2
Caldwell has played 516 of a possible 535 snaps (96.4 percent) on offense this season and has graded out at 90 percent or better in all eight games. Has also seen time at left guard in each of the last four games.

3. Simeon Castille Last Week: 3
Two interceptions and 10 tackles at Tennessee. Leads Alabama with five interceptions and two fumbles recovered this season. Also leads the SEC and ranks sixth nationally with 0.63 interceptions per game. Recorded back-to-back double-digit tackle games against Ole Miss (10) and Tennessee (10) for the first time in his career.

4. Prince Hall Last Week: 4
Hall had six stops and 1.5 tackles for loss at UT. Ranks fourth on the team with 42 total tackles this season. Leads UA with 30 solo stops and 7.5 tackles for loss. Has at least one TFL in each of his last three games. Now has five starts this season to his credit, including the last three games in a row.

5. John Parker Wilson Last Week: 7
Sat out the Tennessee game with a left knee strain. Still leads the team in catches with 37. As a duo, Brown and Hall rank second in the nation in receiving yards with 1,218.

6. Wallace Gilberry Last Week: 6
Gilberry leads all defensive linemen with 366 snaps, including a season-high 54 snaps at Tennessee. Three total tackles, one tackle for loss and one quarterback hurry against the Vols.

7. Ramzee Robinson Last Week: 9
In completing less than 50 percent of his passes and throwing for fewer than 200 yards, Wilson saw a pair of seven-game streaks come to an end at Tennessee. Still on pace to throw for a little more than 2,800 yards this season, which would establish the single-season school record.

8. Juwan Simpson Last Week: 7
Went out briefly in the first quarter of the Tennessee game but returned to action a short time later. Made paving block on Tim Castille's two-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. Surrendered a sack on the final play of the game. Smith has played a team-leading 550 snaps this season, including special teams.

9. Andre Smith Last Week: 8
Played extremely well at UT in recording nine tackles, including one for loss, two pass breakups and a forced fumble. Has 26 tackles, five pass breakups and one interception on the season.

10. Kenneth Darby Last Week: Fringe
Season-high 11 tackles at Tennessee. Simpson leads all linebackers with 421 snaps in seven games, including a season-high 71 plays aagainst UT. Also leads Alabama with 52 tackles this season, including three TFLs, two forced fumbles and one interception.
