Griffin talks Heisman

Troy Smith learned on Wednesday who will be joining him in New York for the Heisman Trophy ceremony. Notre Dame Quarterback Brady Quinn and Arkansas running back Darren McFadden will get the free trip to the Big Apple to watch Troy's coronation.

Even though Troy seems like an overwhelming favorite to come home with the hardware he has remained humble for the entire process. 2-time winner Archie Griffin has watched Smith since he entered the Ohio State program and knew that Smith was going to be special.

"My first impression was a very good impression actually," Griffin said. "I knew that Jim (Tressel) had signed Troy as an athlete, so-called athlete, but I knew in the back of Jim's mind Jim knew that he could also play the position of quarterback. When I first watched the Buckeyes practice in Troy's freshman year I was impressed with the way he threw the football from day one, thought he had a very, very strong arm and I thought he was rather accurate also in that first year even. So I was pretty impressed with him very, very early."

Troy has talked with Archie several times during the season but does the Ohio State captain talk to the former winner about the Heisman and ask for any advice?

"No the conversations I have had with Troy are basically keep up the good work, keep concentrating on the things that are important which is the way that you play."
