Mathews has visit set with ASU, others

Bakersfield (Calif.) West star Ryan Mathews led the nation with 3,396 rushing yards, and he did it playing most of the season at quarterback, after the team's starter at the position went down with an injury. In the process, Mathews became something of a celebrity in the Bakersfield area, and he's in high demand as a recruit, with Arizona State and several others vying for his services.

"I'm planning on visits with ASU, Fresno (State), Nevada and Colorado this month," Mathews said. "I'm going to Fresno on the 19th, ASU is the 12th I think and Nevada is the Monday after that trip (Jan. 15). I'm also going to Colorado. I'm interested in San Diego State still and they seemed to want me but I haven't heard from anyone there in a while. I sent a text to their coach but don't really know what's going on there."
