Vereen and velocity

Just last month BearTerritory caught up with four-star Valencia (Calif.) running back Shane Vereen, one of the Southland's top recruits, to get an update on his senior season. During that interview, we were able to schedule a future photo segment along with a one-on-one interview with the Vikings star.

Interviewing, and then writing about a prospect like Vereen, is about as easy as it gets in this business. Vereen has the prominent distinction of being the most highly recruited player in the history of Valencia football, holds a 4.0 GPA, and has some of the best career prep statistics of any recruit nationally. In three varsity seasons, Vereen racked up a staggering 9.6 yards per every rushing or receiving touch, which explains why prep and college coaches view Shane as a first-down machine. In total, Vereen combined for over 6,000 rushing and receiving yards in 37 career high school football games. He added plenty more yards via special teams, and scored an unbelievable 89 touchdowns during his career. He ranks as the No. 3 overall all-purpose back in the country by Rivals.
