Golden Bears sign Best

Richmond (Calif.) Salesian two-sport star Jahvid Best is arguably the top overall recruit in Cal's 2007 class. The Parade All-American and Rivals100 standout is one of the premier sprinters and running backs in the nation - a prospect that easily deserves 5-stars.

"Signing with Cal is really special," Best said. "From location and the coaches, it is a great place."

There are numerous prospects in the country who can claim another star is warranted. But after rushing for a Bay Area record 3,325 yards on 282 carries - a staggering 11.4 yards per carry average - plus 48 touchdowns, 5-stars should have come a long time ago. Best turned down offers from USC and Notre Dame, and due to his world class speed, likely had over 100 collegiate football and track & field offers in his possession.
