And the award goes to..

Utah 2007 Signing Class awards

Top offensive commit:
Matt Asiata

With Darryl Poston recently being granted a seventh year of eligibility, that leaves some semblance of continuity in the running game from last year. Poston never fully panned out into what all Ute fans were hoping he would be: a running back capable of rushing for 1,000+ yards a season. Needless to say, all the hopes and prayers of a running threat are being rested upon the shoulders of Matt Asiata. Regardless, with a more experienced Poston coming back and a hungry Asiata, the running game in 07 gets and instant upgrade.

Asiata will have two years to play two.

Top defensive commit:
Damilyn Tanner

After the roller coaster that was the recruitment of Blinn C.C. safety Ryan Mouton, most Ute fans were worried about losing a solid JC cornerback prospect. Adding to their worries was the fact that the Utes were losing Eric Shyne, Shaun Harper and part-time corner Eric Weddle, all three of which were huge contributors at that position last season. Never fear Ute fans, El Camino (Calif.) cornerback Damilyn Tanner to the rescue.

Tanner fell into place very rapidly for the Utes after his relationship with Iowa State fizzled following the departure of Dan McCarney and company. After finding out that he most likely didn't have a spot at Iowa St, Tanner decided to look elsewhere and quickly setup a visit to Utah on January 19th. After seeing what Utah had to offer, including a legit shot at the starting spot and reuniting with his high school teammate (Chad Manis), Tanner was sold and turned away Louisville, Iowa St and Hawaii. With legit 4.4 speed, Tanner will push hard for a starting spot this fall.

Damilyn Tanner will have two years to play two for the Utes.
