Spring Preview: Quarterbacks
Spring practices are less than a month away and we're taking a look at the major battles ahead in the months to come. Quarterback, linebacker, defensive end and offensive tackle will be the headline attractions. But there are several positions looking to replace departing starters. SoonerScoop.com Editor Carey Murdock takes a look at the first position of interest this spring, the quarterbacks.
Outgoing Player: Paul Thompson - QB
2006 Season Stats: 204-for-336 (60.7%) for 2,667 yards with 22 touchdowns and 11 interceptions
Most difficult quality to replace: Deep ball accuracy
The Candidates: Joey Halzle, Sam Bradford and Keith Nichol
The Outlook: Paul Thompson went from offensive scapegoat to team strength over the course of one year. The Sooners were able to overcome the loss of Adrian Peterson because of the one thing I poked fun at throughout the 2006 fall preseason.
Thompson had a command and a presence inside the huddle that helped Oklahoma battle through tough games during the Sooners Big 12 Championship stretch run. The Sooners didn't make a lot of big mistakes during the season on offense.
