07 offense could be junior dominated
Towards the end of the 2006 season, Fresno State fans got a good glimpse at what lies ahead as injuries and suspensions led to a young lineup. Although it is early and injuries and changes in chemistry are sure to be made, RedWaveReport is projecting that as many as six juniors could be in the starting lineup on offense on opening day '07.
One position that seems settled for the time being is quarterback where Tom Brandstater will hope to improve on an inconsistent first year at the helm for the Bulldogs. With the departure of Sean Norton from the program, Brandstater's only competition will likely come from sophomore Ryan Colburn. Incoming freshman Matt Faulkner would likely only see time if an emergency situation occurred.
Running back seems headed in the direction of a running-back-by-committee approach as both Lonyae Miller and Anthony Harding touched the ball as freshmen for Fresno State. Miller is the player with the most upside but Harding may be a bit ahead of the curve when it comes to understanding the offense and picking up blocking assignments.
Clifton Smith will likely also see the ball on occasion, but lacks the size to an every down back in the offense. Incoming freshman Ryan Mathews has the opportunity to see some touches, but likely will redshirt given the depth at the position.
Bear Pascoe seems to be the obvious favorite at tight end but likely will lose some catches to Drew Lubinsky, Norman Davis and Isaac Kinter in what appears to be one of the deeper positions on the field for the Bulldogs.
