Venables works to find right mix at LB

Brent Venables is already hard at work trying to establish his top three linebackers during spring practices going on right now in Norman.

Who those three linebackers will be, is yet to be determined. There are several candidates, some favorites and even some dark horses, that can cause a lot of confusion when trying to predict how everything will work out in the end.

The head domino remains Mike Reed, the 6-foot-1, 250-pound middle linebacker transfer from Yuba Community College.

If Reed can win the starting job for Brent Venables at middle linebacker, everything else could fall into place, sort of.

Reed's starting job is not a guarantee, it's something he'll have to work to achieve every day.

"I cautioned Mike Reed that it's going to be very miserable for him," said Venables. I'm not going to look the other way and that's not my nature. You just don't worry about the delivery, you worry about the message and if you can weather storm - and the storm is definitely coming. It's not like 75 percent, it's 100 percent. You can count on it, it's coming."
