Rutgers Quarterbacks: A hot race for second

Coming into spring practice, Rutgers quarterback Mike Teel brings a full year of experience as a starter. Last season, Teel grew a as a team leader every week as did his accuracy and dependability. His receiving corps from last year pretty much remains intact.

Heisman candidate Ray Rice returns to share the backfield with Teel. Some new faces will appear on the offensive line, but one of the hottest races of the spring is the battle for backup quarterback.

Last year's backup, sophomore Jabu Lovelace, figures to have the early inside track. He throws a nice deep ball and has a year of experience as Rutgers' second string quarterback. But Lovelace has a host of challengers contending for that spot. Among those contenders are sophomore transfer Domenic Natale and Freshman Chris Paul-Etienne.

"It's going to be a really good competition," said Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano. "We got three guys who all have an opportunity to do it. They've all been working very hard, so we'll see."
