Evbuomwan says he's ready to 'step up'
Redshirt freshman tight end Lance Evbuomwan is one of the youngest players on the Arizona State spring roster. He won't turn 19 years of age until the fall. But at 6-foot-4 and 268 pounds, Evbuoman is listed as the heaviest player at the position, and it's quite possible that he's got the most future potential.
Every once in a while around the practice field you'll hear one of Evbuomwan's teammates jokingly refer to him as an offensive lineman, but it certainly isn't because he's out of shape.
"When I first got out here, our weight trainer "House" said that I had a lot of baby fat and stuff and it's time to tone it up," Evbuomwan said following a recent ASU practice. "He really busted my butt, worked me out pretty hard. I have a lot to still improve on though.
"The guys just mess around with little jokes, calling me an o-lineman and stuff because I was gaining weight (in the strength program). But I hit 265 and pretty much stopped. It's more of a joke than an actual serious thing."
If anything, it may be a bit of jealousy.
