Cats looking ahead this spring

When Kansas State conducts its 10th spring practice Thursday night, Ron Prince, as he always does, will inspect the Wildcats' fundamentals, seek improvement and check-off some non-household names that could emerge as stars-to-be by the fall. Meanwhile, a red-letter date will remain in the back of the mind of the second-year coach.

After all, Auburn will be only 142 days away.

"That game and several others are challenging from a scheme and match-up standpoint," Prince said. "We need the time to evaluate those particular kind of game plans. After having gone through these games there is enough diversity and styles of play within our schedule that will challenge us.

"If we can be comfortable in knowing how we're going to try and play those types of games than this will be a good period for us."
