Arguably Virginia Tech's top recruiting target in the 2008 class, Norfolk (Va.) Maury offensive tackle Vinston Painter took his first unofficial to Blacksburg since last summer for camp. The 6-foot-6, 317-pounder had a good trip to Tech.

"It was cool," he said. "I got a chance to see the guys practice; I met the players and checked out the campus.

"In practice, the guys played hard and it was what I expected from Virginia Tech. It was a pretty good experience. I watched Kam Chancellor and he did exactly what I thought as did Hall and Adibi. A couple of those defensive linemen looked good as did the offensive line too. There were a few guys that stepped up, but I think they still need a little help. Overall the practice was real good."
