Collier hoping to hear more from Louisville

Averin Collier, a 5-foot-11, 200-pound athlete from Churchville, N.Y., received a scholarship offer from the previous coaching staff at Louisville, and he continues to pick up offers from other schools.

Already with offers from Louisville, Boston College, Clemson, Syracuse, Pittsburgh, and Virginia, Collier picked up a scholarship offer from Central Florida assistant coach Joseph Gilbert on Tuesday.

Collier, who runs a 4.5-second forty, said he has yet to hear from the new staff at Louisville but hopes he gets their call soon. "I'm waiting for the call," he told "They were one of the first schools to offer me. They are a great program and I'd love to be a part of it, but I want to hear from them."

The prospect has taken trips to Pittsburgh, Virginia, and Syracuse this year, and he said he would like to make a trip to Louisville this summer. What intrigues him about the Cardinals? "The underdog story,' he answered. "A couple of years ago you didn't hear anything about them; then they emerge as a superpower. They are growing. Last year they were a game away from the national championship. They are just that close. If they hadn't lost to Rutgers they could have been playing Ohio State in the national championship game."

If Collier doesn't hear from the Cardinals, they may eventually see him on the playing field because he talks very highly of the Big East conference. "Big East football has come a long way from where it used to be," he explained. "With Louisville coming along
and West Virginia emerging as a national power. They were 5-0 in the bowl games last
year and they were above 75 percent against other good conferences last year."

The member of the 250 to watch list didn't talk like a young man in a hurry to make a decision. "I'm still going to keep my options open. I want to look at the top 25 and go fom there. It's subject to change. If new schools want to come on and recruit me then I'm open to that," Collier said.
