Rivals100 LB, top DB visit the Plains
Auburn is set to host hundreds of prospects at its camp Saturday and Sunday, but two top recruits beat the rush.
Miami (Fla.) Krop LB Etienne Sabino and DB Travis Howard both took an unofficial visit to AU on Friday.
"We toured the campus, saw all of the facilities, and met up with the academic people and hung out with the players a little bit," said Sabino. "I liked it. At first I was a little iffy because I'm a city kid, and seeing all of the trees was a little different, but there are a lot of people from Florida on their roster so it makes it feel like home."
Sabino, rated a four-star prospect and member of the Rivals100, met with the AU staff including LB coach James Willis, recruiting coach Eddie Gran, defensive coordinator Will Muschamp and even head man Tommy Tuberville.
Before the visit, the 6-foot-3, 230-pounder had concerns with the Tigers' depth at linebacker. However, Sabino said not any more.
"I know there is definitely an opportunity to play here, especially with them going more to the 3-4 (defense)," said Sabino. "I got a very clear picture that there is a lot of room to play, a lot of opportunity here if I work hard."
Sabino, the nation's No. 5 inside linebacker prospect, said the AU coaches were nothing but honest.
"I liked the people, the coaches. Coach Tubs is a cool guy, real laid-back," said Sabino. "And everything coach Gran and coach Willis told me, we asked the players, and they told us the exact same thing. Obviously they aren't sugar coating anything. They were straightforward with me."
Before arriving in Auburn Friday, Sabino and Howard made stops at Georgia and Tennessee and will cap off the road trip with a visit to Georgia Tech Saturday.
