Camp Video: Auburn commits solid at camp
Auburn had plenty of top talent in last weekend for its first senior camp, and among the best of the bunch at TE was Pace (Fla.) High's Vance Smith.
Smith, who was Auburn's first commitment of the 2008 class, attended the camp and worked with the Tigers' tight end coach Steve Ensminger.
"It went good. I think I got better. I know now what I need to work on at home to get ready," said Smith. "It was good working with coach Ensminger. I like him a lot. He seemed pleased."
The 6-foot-4, 235-pounder was a standout in drills and 1-on-1s.
"At times, I thought I did all right. I realize that there's some big competition out there and I have to get better," Smith said.
Not that there was any doubt before, but Smith said the trip to the Plains just helped assure him that AU was the right choice.
"I felt like I got more familiar with the campus," he said. "The coaches
everything at Auburn, I just like it a lot.
"No doubt, Auburn is the place for me."
Smith wasn't the only Auburn commitment at camp. Picayune (Miss.) DB Drew Cole was on the Plains all week working under defensive coordinator Will Muschamp.
"He taught me a lot about one-hand jam, kick slide and staying patient in there when you're pressing," said Cole. "I feel like I learned a lot this week. It was a good experience."
