Football Notebook: Odds & Ends

Not a lot of news has been seeping out of the summer workouts other than the typical 'everybody looks great' type of thing, but one thing is very apparent about the latest group of freshmen: they are in great shape and expect to all play right now.

"They are strong and they are motivated," said senior running back Kregg Lumpkin.

Lumpkin, who finished the season with 853 yards and six touchdowns, finished spring camp as the starter ahead of redshirt freshman Knowshon Moreno.

Lumpkin took over for Thomas Brown, who rushed for 278 yards before suffering a torn ACL midway through the season.

"He is looking really good," Lumpkin said if Brown. "We don't want to push him too much, but he is looking strong."

By all accounts, Brown is expected to return to action for fall camp, which would be considerably quicker than the typical one year recovery time from such an injury.
