Rebels grab South Panola trio

The Ole Miss football team added two more in-state talents to its 2008 recruiting class Monday, when head coach Ed Orgeron and his staff picked up commitments from Bud and Darius Barksdale out of South Panola High School in Batesville.

Darius Barksdale, a four-star athlete, projects as either a safety or a running back at the next level. At 6-feet and 190 pounds, he has 4.4-second speed in the 40-yard dash and is rated as the fourth-best player in Mississippi.

In 2007, Darius Barksdale rushed for over 1,042 yards and scored 10 touchdowns. He also was named to the All-State team after helping lead South Panola to its third-straight state title.

Darius Barksdale also had interest from Alabama, Florida and Florida State.

His cousin, Bud, also cracked Rivals Top 20 in Mississippi, as the three-star cornerback picked off five passes in 2007.

Bud Barksdale, a 6-foot, 190-pound cornerback, is a top 50 cornerback nationally and rated 15th in Mississippi.

If Bud and Darius Barksdale line up in the defensive secondary for the Rebels, the cousins would be the third and fourth defensive backs committed for 2008.

With the two commitments, Ole Miss now has three commitments from the state's top 20-rated players, joining seventh-rated running back Kenneth Davis.

Darius Barksdale is the Rebels' first four-star commitment for 2008, and Bud Barksdale is Ole Miss' fourth three-star commit.

Orgeron and his staff now have 12 commitments for 2008.
