2007 Outlook: Who will play quarterback?

With the 2007 season only weeks away from starting there are several questions that need to be answered for new head coach Tim Brewster and his Golden Gophers. When camp opens at St. Johns on August 4th, the most pressing question will which quarterback will lead the team on the field against Bowling Green on September 1st. The battle that started in the spring will continue into the late summer and there will likely be another participant this time around.

The Position:

Starting quarterback for the 2007 Golden Gophers

The Problem:

Bryan Cupito has graduated leaving Brewster and offensive coordinator Mike Dunbar short on experience to run their new spread option offense.

The Possibilites:

Junior Tony Mortensen 6-foot-3, 230 pounds

Redshirt Freshman Adam Weber 6-foot-3, 220 pounds

True Freshman Clint Brewster 6-foot-1, 195 pounds

Mortensen and Weber each spent time running the first team during the spring, but neither one stepped up and took control of the quarterback position.
