Walker back in starting role for 2007
San Antonio, Tx. -- Oklahoma's Marcus Walker was introduced by head coach Bob Stoops as a starting cornerback for the Oklahoma defense during Big 12 media days in San Antonio.
It's been a long journey for the senior cornerback from Waco, Texas, but Walker is finally entrenched as a starter after a career plagued by shoulder injuries. Walker finally has his chance to shine in the defensive backfield and SoonerScoop.com Editor Carey Murdock caught up with Walker to get his thoughts on the defensive secondary and the upcoming season.
SoonerScoop.com: Getting ready to start the season and I guess this is where the excitement starts to build for everyone isn't it? You get to come to media days in San Antonio and answer a lot of questions about the upcoming season. Tell us about your feelings just being a couple of weeks away from the start of practices
Marcus Walker: I'm very excited to tell you the truth. It will be exciting and we have a good nucleus of guys coming back.
Our team has been working hard over the summer and it's going to be pretty fun to get the pads back on and get out on the field and get the work done.
SS.com: I know everyone is curious about summer workouts and how everything went. Tell us about how you felt the work in the summer went and how much the team progressed
Walker: They were intense workouts every day. It was an intense two hours of power. Our strength coach is intense and he works us to the edge. That pays off on gamedays when it's hot outside and you don't think you can go anymore. You've got that extra limit you can go to from dealing with Schmitty all summer. He pushes you to a level you think you probably can't be pushed to.
It's all about getting better and building a team camaraderie. You've been in the fire with these guys all summer and when you get tired he pulls you through and when the guy next to you is tired you pull him through. So you build a trust in your brother on game day that he's going to get it done for you no matter the situation.
