Big 12 Media Days: Making strides
Note: This is the first in a four-part series on Mike Gundy's thoughts about the upcoming football season.
The unofficial start to the 2007 college football season has come and gone, meaning that the countdown to kickoff in Georgia has begun for the Oklahoma State Cowboys.
This weeks' Big 12 Media Days served as that unofficial start, with players and coaches from all member schools heading to the site of this year's championship game - San Antonio - to speak with the media about the upcoming season.
The Cowboys are coming off a 7-6 season in 2006 and an Independence Bowl championship over Alabama. Because of that season - and what OSU returns on offense - there is a lot of hype and talk about the Cowboys coming into this year. In recent weeks, it's become pretty clear that the Pokes are this year's "sexy" pick or "darkhorse" candidate in the conference race, if you believe in what the media pundits are saying.
This preseason hype completes a pretty quick reversal of fortune for Mike Gundy's young head coaching career in Stillwater. After a dismal 2005, the Pokes rebounded with last year's performance, which had several close calls and could have been a better season than it was.
