Saturday scrimmage report

The Appalachian State football team took the field Saturday afternoon for its first scrimmage of the fall and both the offense and defense shined during the day's events.

In the first series of the day, the offense looked as though it would roll all over the defensive unit as Armanti Edwards stayed true to form by breaking open a 20-plus yard scamper that later led to the day's first big passing play. The pass, a 40-yard touchdown strike to Hans Batichon, came after the senior receiver left his man and broke across the middle of the field leaving himself wide open for the Edwards toss.

CoCo Hillary showed why he has been the talk of camp thus far, as he impressed those in attendance all afternoon long. Hillary lined up at several positions, in which he was given the opportunity to carry the ball out of the backfield, return kicks and punts, and line up at his usual slot receiver position. His day was highlighted by a 35-yard reception and several other short yardage passes that were turned into double-digit gains.
