Neasman to transfer

UCF sophomore quarterback Marquel Neasman plans to transfer, head coach George O'Leary announced following Tuesday's practice. Neasman, who is 5-foot-10 and 187 pounds, entered preseason camp as the No. 2 quarterback behind Kyle Israel, but has since moved down on the depth chart behind true freshman Joe Weatherford.

"Marquel is a great kid," O'Leary said. "He probably has a better opportunity at a lower level. That's what he told me he'd like to do. He said, 'Coach, I'm not in the competition. It's best for me to try and transfer and play ball. I want to play.' I couldn't promise him that he would play (at UCF)."

Neasman signed with UCF in 2005 out of Bradenton Southeast High School. He redshirted that season and was the No. 3 QB on the depth chart in 2006, but did not see any game action.

O'Leary is hopeful sophomore Michael Greco can add some competition to the quarterback position. Greco, a transfer from NC State, was expected to battle for the backup spot, but he has been limited during the preseason while he recuperates from a minor injury. He was still in a yellow, no-contact jersey Tuesday, but he participated in some non-throwing drills and handoffs.
