Relationship paying off with Alabama athlete

The pace of the college football recruiting process is still region-specific despite the advancements in communication technology.

Whereas Big 12 programs Texas and Nebraska receive pledges from a majority of their classes before the start of their senior years, the Southeast still does a bulk of its recruiting in the months between the end of the college football season and the signing date.

For teams like Purdue that recruit in both the Big 12 region as well as the Southeast, there is the need to understand and work accordingly with each region's trends. When recruiting a player like Mobile (Ala.) St. Paul's cornerback Louis Watson, defensive line coach Terrell Williams might expect a longer process.
