Greenwood talks about the defense
Two weeks into camp, both starting safety jobs remain up for grabs as Brett Greenwood and company continue to try to lock down a spot. With less than two weeks until the season opener, Greenwood talks about the defensive backfield and their progress, some of the younger players like Diauntae Morrow and Tyler Sash getting into the mix, and much more.
Q: How would you assess overall the defensive backs at this point?
GREENWOOD: We've come a long way these last two weeks. We've started to bond together and we're picking up the defense well, which I think you saw with the younger guys especially because they got a couple picks today on the second team. You'll probably see those younger guys get in and make a contribution to the team.
Q: You mentioned Diauntae Morrow. What are some of the things he's done that's moved him up to second team already?
GREENWOOD: He's picked up the defense really quickly. I was surprised in two weeks time for him to pick it up that fast. He's a good player and he can be a big contributor to our team.
Q: What have you seen from another younger guy, Tyler Sash?
GREENWOOD: He has great speed. He's an athlete for sure. He can make reads and break on the ball very quickly. If he's on one side of the field, he can run all the way to the other side of the field and make a play. He's a great athlete.
Q: Does a sense of urgency now pick up with only a week left of camp and Northern Illinois coming up?
GREENWOOD: Yeah, these next two weeks before Northern Illinois are going to be huge and important, especially next week getting in and watching film on them. We just need to keep on improving because we have a lot of work to do.
