Notes: Quarless, Harriott will sit Saturday

Penn State's 80-year old head coach, Joe Paterno, is at it again.

The Nittany Lions are about to begin their 2007 season with Saturday's home opener against a Florida International team that finished last season 0-12. For the Lions, who are 38.5 point favorites, by the way, the game isn't expected to be much of a challenge. If anything, Penn State fans and media are looking at it as more of a warmup game.

Yet, Paterno claims to be as nervous about the game as he's ever been for a season-opener.

"Really, I am as nervous as I probably have ever been for a first game because of a lot of things you just mentioned," Paterno said, noting the Panthers' QB battle and new coach at FIU. "They're in the middle of an area where they can recruit a lot of kids with tremendous athletic skills."

Although Paterno said he has done as much background checking as he could do for the team and the university, it still hasn't helped much.
