Throughout the football season, we at Orangebloods.com will offer up our insights about the Longhorns that we believe were the hottest players on the Texas football team.
It's a fine line ranking the top players from week to week, and there are usually several guys that just miss the cut. As always, we encourage readers to head over to the Inside the Forty Acres board to offer up their own opinions.
The senior from Texarkana tops our list after leading the team with nine receptions. Jones totaled 72 yards on his catches, and his strong showing should make Longhorn fans feel a lot better about not having Jordan Shipley and Billy Pittman in the receiver mix. Jones was solid all pre-season and he carried it over into game one.
It was tough sledding for Charles for the majority of the evening, but he did still manage 112 yards and a score on 27 carries. Topping the century mark is always nice, but it's that last statistic that is the most meaningful. Charles showed that he can handle a full workload, and he ran as hard as he ever has in a Longhorn uniform.
Sweed had told everyone that would listen that he'd be ready to go in the opener, and he was true to his word. His wrist may still be bothering him, but it didn't show on the balls that were thrown his way. The Biletnikoff Award candidate recorded five catches for 93 yards and one touchdown.
