Forty Acres Report - Sense of urgency?

KINDLE AND MELTON ARE OFFICIALLY BACK IN ACTION

Linebacker Sergio Kindle and defensive end Henry Melton, both of whom served a three-game suspension following DUI arrests, rejoined the team on Sunday night, and the two players went through their first full run of practice reps on Tuesday.

"They did really well. They're fresh and excited about playing again," said Mack Brown. "It has been a great message I think. I know it's the harshest punishment that I have ever put on anybody for a DUI and I do think it helped. They understand how much they missed it, and hopefully, it will show some of the other kids that without football, it is different."

Both players should see the field this weekend, and both fans and coaches are curious to see what they can bring to the table, particularly Kindle. An ultra-athletic linebacker that can make plays from sideline to sideline, Kindle was Texas' prized recruit in 2006, but his career at Texas has been rather slow to take off up to this point.

"He gives us a presence off the edge, number one. That's where we'll try to utilize him. He's got a gift as a blitzer. He can really run, he has a real physical presence," said defensive coordinator Duane Akina. "And yet he's still young in terms of games played and expectations are really high. Let's just give him a chance to play his way into what we're all hoping."

The hope is that both players will slide right back into the mix and not show any signs of rust, and Akina said both Kindle and Melton will get their shot this week.
